Backend Software Engineer - Bankruptcy & Hardship (BAH)

Helprise is an organization that combines global reach with local talent. We work for companies that value quality, partnership, and responsibility, creating teams that really work. By precisely matching skills and business needs, we connect specialists with projects where their knowledge has a real impact. By joining us, you become part of an environment where matching is not a coincidence, but a decision.

About the project

Join a newly formed team building core servicing platforms from scratch to support customers facing financial hardship. This is a true greenfield project with high business and customer impact, starting with a US rollout and expanding to international markets.

You’ll have a real opportunity to shape the product and technical foundations from day one, with a strong focus on scalability, operational excellence and compliance. One of the team’s near-term priorities is accelerating the development of the Payment Snooze feature.

YOU WILL

  • Design, build, and maintain backend services and event-driven pipelines that orchestrate
bankruptcy workflows and hardship support, with a high bar for correctness, auditability,
    and reliability.
  • Take independent, end-to-end ownership of backend services or pipelines of meaningful
scope — from design through production.
  • Collaborate closely with product, compliance, and platform teams to ship compliant,
well-tested features that serve customers in critical financial moments.
  • Help shape foundational systems and engineering standards for a newly formed team:
participate in design and code reviews and proactively flag compliance or correctness
    risks.

YOU NEED

  • 5+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally in Kotlin, Java, or Python (in order
    of preference).
  • Strong familiarity with distributed systems concepts: queues, async processing, retries,
and event-driven architectures or message queues (e.g. Kafka, SQS).
  • Strong fundamentals: clean, well-tested, readable code, and the ability to communicate
    clearly about trade-offs and risk.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in regulated or compliance-sensitive environments (fintech, lending, debt
    management, financial servicing).
  • Experience with AWS or another major cloud provider.
